This whetstone absorbs water well and, at first glance, might resemble a softer Western-style stone. However, it is actually quite hard.

Mud was produced even without using a nagura stone, but it felt like it might scratch the stone if forced. Therefore, it is recommended to use a diamond stone or similar to moderately produce mud before starting to sharpen.
A fine, sandy, yellowish-brown mud is produced, offering excellent slip.
As you continue sharpening, it changes to a creamy, matcha-green mud.

Stones like Nakayama, which are hard and used for final finishing where sharpening scratches are not visible, often result in a brighter steel finish. However, the blades I finished with this stone consistently showed a bright steel and a darker, clouded base metal finish.
Overall, I find this to be an interesting whetstone.

The surface is slightly angled relative to the base, so please secure it to a stand or place a cloth underneath when using.
